National Flag

Lesotho’s national flag has undergone changes over the last 40 odd years, with the current flag being that depicted to the right. It is often said that flags of all nations were left on the moon by the first astronauts from the United States to land on the moon, and that an effort should be made to retrieve Lesotho’s that is there, to be replaced with this new flag.

The current national flag of Lesotho, adopted on October 4, 2006, features a horizontal blue, white, and green tri-colour with a black Mokorotlo (a Basotho hat) in the centre. The design, which was introduced to honour the 40th anniversary of independence, is reportedly intended to reflect the peaceful orientation of the country.
